Rockefeller Foundation, Global Energy Alliance commit $100M to deliver electricity to 300M in Africa

The Rockefeller Foundation and the Global Energy Alliance have supercharged Mission 300, a program aiming to connect 300 million Africans to electricity by 2030, with a combined $100M. The initiative, backed by the World Bank and the African Development Bank, targets 23 countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, and Zambia. The funding will support technical assistance, clean cooking programs, off-grid solar projects, and workforce development through fellowships. Nearly half of the funding comes from the foundation’s RF Catalytic Capital, the rest from the GEA. Since April 2024, 44 million people have gained access to electricity, with billions more expected to follow, fueling jobs, health, and economic growth.
