University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa receives $3M bequest for scholarships in Japanese studies

The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, has announced a $3 million bequest from the estate of philanthropist Ina Goodwin Tateuchi to support its Center for Japanese Studies. The gift establishes the Tateuchi Memorial Endowed Scholarship, providing full tuition and related expenses for undergraduate students pursuing Japanese language, Japan-focused Asian studies, and related fields. The endowment will strengthen workforce development, expand academic opportunities, and sustain the university’s century-long leadership in Japanese studies.
