Communities Foundation of Texas commits $2M for local news and civic engagement

Communities Foundation of Texas has announced a $2 million grant initiative to strengthen local news and civic engagement across North Texas. The funding includes $1.15 million for 11 local news and information organizations to support local reporting, audience engagement, community storytelling, and newsroom sustainability, and $825,000 for 17 nonprofits advancing civic education, volunteerism, leadership development, and public participation. The initiative aims to expand access to trusted local information, increase civic involvement, and strengthen community decision-making as the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary, reinforcing the role of local institutions in building informed, engaged communities.
