National Trust’s Action Fund awards $3M to back Black heritage preservation projects

The African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund, a division of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, has announced 27 grants totaling $3 million to support historic sites across the United States and preserve nationally significant Black heritage. The funding includes $2.26 million through its National Grant Program and $750,000 through its Conserving Black Modernism Initiative, a collaboration with the J. Paul Getty Foundation. Recipients include the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor, the Detroit Association of Women’s Clubs, and Fisk University in Nashville. The grants will protect civil rights landmarks, cultural landscapes, educational institutions, and Black Modernist architecture while strengthening long-term community stewardship of Black history.
