George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, has announced a $3 million award from the SYYK Foundation, established by GMU physics and astronomy professor Paul So to accelerate quantum science education and research. The funding will establish an endowed professorship in the department of physics and astronomy, with endowment proceeds supporting graduate students and current-use funds providing immediate program support. The investment is intended to recruit a leading quantum scientist, expand interdisciplinary collaboration, and strengthen the pipeline of quantum talent as demand for the field grows, enabling GMU to capitalize on emerging research, workforce, and technology opportunities.
