World Bank $890M funding package boosts rooftop solar energy expansion across India

The World Bank has announced $890 million in financing to expand India’s national rooftop solar program, advancing clean energy goals and accelerating residential adoption. The package includes an $820 million loan from the World Bank’s International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, a $10 million IBRD Livable Planet Fund grant, and a $60 million loan from the Clean Technology Fund. The initiative will support solar installations for 10 million rural and urban households, reduce electricity costs, and strengthen renewable energy supply chains. The program is expected to create 1.7 million jobs while mobilizing an additional $4.2 billion in private financing.
