Report maps $180M in NSF AI-related higher education investments and scholarships across U.S.

Sallie–formery Sallie Mae, a college planning and scholarship access company, has released a report analyzing over 2,700 new AI-related education awards issued by the National Science Foundation since 2022, highlighting where federal investment in AI education, research, scholarships, and fellowships is growing fastest. The study–designed to help students identify institutions and regions with expanding AI education opportunities–found that California, Texas, and New York accounted for more than a quarter of all awards, while California ranked first in dollars awarded. The report also identified 102 awards totaling more than $180 million for AI-related scholarships, with Texas leading in total scholarships awarded. New Mexico ranked second for total AI-related funding, with 70% of NSF funds directed to the state’s HBCUs and tribal and community colleges.
