The University of Virginia School of Education and Human Development in Charlottesville has announced a $43.4 million gift from alumni Kathleen and David LaCross to advance the development of an early childhood learning center. The award is the largest in the education school’s history, and will help deliver high-quality educational and developmental services for local children while providing practical training for UVA students. Planned enrollment exceeds 100 children up to age 5, with low-income families expected to receive free access. The investment is designed to improve kindergarten readiness for local children, support local workforce needs, create jobs, and establish a scalable model for early childhood education and community collaboration.
