Allen Institute, partners launches $400M initiative to speed up neurodegenerative disease research, treatment

The Seattle-based Allen Institute–a medical research nonprofit established by Jody Allen and her late brother Paul Allen, the Microsoft co-founder–has announced a $400 million collaborative commitment to launch a new brain health accelerator initiative. The funding includes $200 million from the Allen Institute, $100 million from the Bezos Family Foundation, and $100 million from partners including Amazon Web Services, the National Institutes of Health, and EverythingALS. Working worldwide with over 30 collaborating institutions,  the research initiative is focused on leveraging AI, advanced genomics, and open-science platforms to tackle neurodegenerative diseases and speeding the work to translate research into treatments and potential cures for Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s diseases, as well as ALS, and Lewy body dementia.
