The World Bank has announced a $500 million loan as part of a broader $968 million financing package to support low-carbon industrial development in Northeast Brazil through Banco do Nordeste. The initiative combines financing and grants from the Climate Investment Fund, and the World Bank’s Energy Sector Management Assistance Program, alongside more than $423 million in additional private-sector investments. The funding will support clean-energy-linked industrial development including sustainable aviation fuels, green steel, low-carbon fertilizers, and cement manufacturing, while expanding the region’s infrastructure and research capacity. The collaboration aims to accelerate Brazil’s energy transition, attract commercial capital, create jobs, and strengthen economic diversification in one of the country’s least industrialized regions.
