Pitt receives $9M to investigate environmental triggers and identify treatments for Parkinson’s

The University of Pittsburgh has announced a multiyear, $9 million grant to the PItt School of Medicine from Aligning Science Across Parkinson’s, in partnership with the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, to support research in collaboration with Rutgers University, University of Alabama Birmingham, Acurex Biosciences, and King’s College London. The funding will back research into how environmental exposures trigger neurodegeneration and why Parkinson’s disease progresses differently with each patient. The project aims to identify prevention and mitigation strategies while developing standardized research tools and data for ASAP’s global research network and accelerate progress toward precision diagnostics and future therapies.
