University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Sciences in Grand Forks has announced a $5 million commitment from Drs. Mohiba and Basir Tareen to establish a department of dermatology as the state confronts a regional healthcare gap. The investment aims to expand training, research, and patient care across North Dakota and the Upper Midwest, where fewer than 30 practicing dermatologists currently serve the region. The award will endow a named chair in dermatology to recruit a nationally recognized physician-leader to build the department and train future specialists. The award will also strengthen UND’s capacity to deliver dermatologic care in rural and underserved communities.
