Alix Foundation fuels $1.5M Birth Detroit endowment to support maternal care access

Birth Detroit has announced a $575,000 combined commitment from the Alix Foundation to fully fund a $1.5 million endowment and expand maternal health services at the community-based nonprofit. The funding includes a $275,000 leadership gift, matched through by the Children’s Foundation of Michigan and a $300,000 multiyear grant to help stabilize long-term operations. The center supports prenatal and postpartum care, childbirth education, home visits, and staffing at Detroit’s first freestanding birth center, aiming to improve maternal outcomes—particularly for Black families—and ensure sustained, community-centered care delivery.
