Utah leaders commit $30M to restore Great Salt Lake through conservation and water reforms push

Utah business leaders have announced a combined  $30 million philanthropic commitment in Salt Lake City, Utah, to support restoration of the Great Salt Lake through a multiyear collaboration of private donors, civic groups, and environmental partners. The funding will back water conservation projects, agricultural efficiency upgrades, and ecosystem recovery efforts aimed at reversing historically low lake levels that threaten public health, air quality, and the regional economy. The initiative also aligns with preparations for the 2034 Winter Olympics, adding urgency to stabilization efforts. The pledges strengthen coordinated statewide strategies to reduce water use, restore inflows, and preserve the lake’s ecological and economic viability.
