Michael Moritz, Crankstart launch $150M grant program to improve San Francisco

Billionaire investor Michael Moritz, through his Crankstart foundation, has partnered with nonprofit Lever for Change to launch Boundless San Francisco, a $150 million open-call competition to support bold ideas that improve life in San Francisco. The initiative will award up to three grants of as much as $50 million each to organizations with proposals benefiting the city, regardless of where applicants are based. The competition is designed to attract innovative solutions to challenges such as affordability, population loss and urban revitalization. The effort builds on Crankstart’s extensive Bay Area philanthropy, which has directed more than $1 billion to regional nonprofits and civic initiatives since 2020.
