Hewlett Foundation launches $100M initiative to strengthen AI, biotech, and quantum security

The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation has announced a $100 million, five-year grantmaking initiative to support civil society organizations, universities, think tanks, and other independent institutions advancing the safe development of artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and quantum computing. The multiyear commitment will fund efforts through 2031 to strengthen critical infrastructure, address emerging technology security risks and improve global governance. The initiative builds on $10 million in exploratory grants already awarded, with another $10 million planned in 2026.
