Green Climate Fund commits $52.5M to FAO, Fiji for forest, food security, and climate action

The Green Climate Fund has announced a $52.5 million commitment to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in partnership with the government of Fiji to strengthen climate resilience, restore forest landscapes, and improve food security across the South Pacific island nation. A grant of $29.3 from GCF and $23.2 million in co-financing over seven years will restore nearly 200,000 acres of forest and agricultural land, protect over 220,000 acres of coastal ecosystems, and directly benefit nearly 197,000 people. The collaboration aims to reduce climate risk, support sustainable livelihoods, expand agroforestry, and remove an estimated 6.6 million tons of CO₂ from the environment.
