Ontario’s Scarborough Health Network has announced a C$30 million ($22M) award from the Northpine Foundation to expand cancer care, strengthen primary care access, and advance critical care research across the region. The funding will support development of the Northpine Cancer Care Centre at SHN’s General Hospital, increasing capacity amid a 22% rise in oncology visits. The award also aims to connect 15,000 patients with complex needs to interprofessional primary care teams, addressing gaps affecting nearly 100,000 residents without a family doctor. In addition, the funding establishes a professorship in critical care research to improve evidence-based treatment and patient outcomes.
