Pitt Supercomputing Center receives NSF $10M to build next-generation AI supercomputer

University of Pittsburgh’s Supercomputing Center has announced a $10 million grant from the National Science Foundation to build Bridges-3, its next flagship supercomputer in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The funding will support development of an advanced computing system integrating GPUs, CPUs and high-speed networking to accelerate artificial intelligence, simulation, data analytics and scientific research. Expected to begin construction in early 2027 and become fully operational in summer 2027, Bridges-3 will expand access to high-performance computing for researchers, educators, students and institutions nationwide, continuing the center’s support for broad scientific and educational communities.
