$1M Google, Idris Elba collaboration expands access to AI tools across Africa’s creator economy

Google and Idris Elba, through the Elba Hope Foundation, have awarded $1 million to provide AI tools and digital product access to creators across Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, and Sierra Leone to accelerate content production and lower creative costs. The collaboration will provide roughly 100,000 creators with access to Google’s Gemini AI assistant and related technologies, helping independent talent produce higher-quality work without major studio budgets. Google will also select 15 African startups for support as part of a broader continent-wide innovation effort.
