AARP doubles community grants to $8.3M focusing on aging and livable communities nationwide

AARP has announced grants totaling $8.3 million through its Community Challenge program to fund 750 local projects nationwide focused on making communities more livable for people of all ages. The record commitment, which marks the program’s 10th anniversary, is double the amount awarded in 2025 and will support improvements in public spaces, transportation, housing, digital access, and disaster preparedness nationwide. The grants support initiatives such as transit workshops in Charlotte, North Carolina; a home-sharing pilot program in Reno, Nevada; expanded Wi-Fi access in Ortonville, Michigan; and disaster readiness training in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Since 2017, AARP has invested $32.6 million through the program.
