The National Fund for Excellence in American Indian Education has announced a five-year, $10 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to expand early childhood literacy programs, build long-term instructional capacity, and boost reading outcomes across Bureau of Indian Education schools in Arizona and New Mexico. In partnership with WestEd, a San Francisco-based learning and education equity nonprofit, the initiative will reach thousands of K–3 students enrolled in 60 bureau-operated and tribally controlled schools. The program will train 150 teachers, deliver aligned high-impact tutoring, and implement science of reading-based instruction integrated with Native culture and language.
