GitLab Foundation invests $38.6M worldwide in FY26 for outcomes-driven high-ROI programs

GitLab Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Francisco, California-based GitLab dev-ops platform, awarded more than 80 grants in FY26 totaling $20.4 million, alongside $18.2 million in co-investments aimed at scaling workforce and economic mobility solutions globally. Investments in the foundation’s outcomes-driven portfolio typically exceed a stated $100 return in lifetime earnings per dollar invested. Key recipients include AkiraChix, which supports coding education for women in Africa; Carina, a home-care platform linking providers with clients; and Recidiviz, which builds AI tools to improve criminal justice reentry outcomes. The foundation also backed Mobile Pathways and Lawyers for Good Government to help develop immigration support tools, and supported AI-for-work initiatives with OpenAI and and other philanthropic co-funders.
