Chan-Zuckerberg Biohub commits $500M to fuel AI-driven biology disease discovery and treatment

Biohub in Redwood City, California—a research nonprofit backed by Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan—has announced a $500 million multiyear commitment to fund its Virtual Biology Initiative. The funding will drive large-scale data generation, next-generation imaging, and open-access infrastructure to build predictive AI models of human cells. Anchored by $100 million for external collaborations and $400 million for internal capacity, the effort aims to accelerate disease discovery, enable new therapies, and create a shared data foundation for AI-powered biomedical research. The initiative will be joined by an array of partners including the Allen, Arc, Broad, and Wellcome Sanger institutes, as well as consortia including the Human Cell Atlas and the Human Protein Atlas, to help scale global efforts.
