Caterpillar awards $2.3M to Smithsonian hands-on AI, STEM education programming 

The Smithsonian Institute has announced a three-year, $2.3 million gift from the Caterpillar Foundation to the Smithsonian Science Education Center in Washington, D.C., to expand STEM education in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. The funding will bring hands-on STEM programming, educator training and AI-focused learning resources to 40 communities across 21 states. The gift will also expand the Smithsonian STEAM Schools of Distinction program by sponsoring 24 middle and high schools, providing professional development, classroom resources and virtual support to help prepare tens of thousands of students for high-demand STEM careers.
