The Global Environment Facility–a multilateral environment-focused investment fund established by the World Bank and the United Nations Development (UNDP) and Environment (UNEP) programs–has announced $232.5 million in financing across 24 projects in 22 countries. The awards, made through GEF’s principal trust and affiliated climate and biodiversity funds, will support an array of conservation, adaptation, land restoration, and climate mitigation initiatives. Supported by UNDP, 11 projects in 10 countries in Africa, Asia and the Pacific region will leverage awards totaling $77.6 million to mobilize $400 million in additional co-financing–part of a total $428 million in co-financing negotiated alongside the latest round of funding. GEF has called for $3.9 billion in new funding through 2030.
