Cornell expands quantum engineering research with $13.5M for collaborative science infrastructure

Cornell University’s Duffield College of Engineering has committed $13.5 million to expand quantum research infrastructure and collaborative science initiatives at Cornell University. The investment includes $10 million to equip a new 10,000-square-foot quantum-ready “collaboratory” within the Duffield Hall expansion and $3.5 million for competitive, cross-disciplinary research grants. Funded through a record $371.5 million gift from donor David Duffield in January, the facility will feature advanced fabrication, cryogenic, optical, and semiconductor packaging systems designed to lower barriers to quantum research participation across disciplines. Scheduled for completion in 2027, the facility is intended to accelerate quantum engineering innovation, hands-on workforce training, and large-scale collaborative research at Cornell.
