NFWF, partners back habitat conservation and water quality restoration in Chicago region

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation has announced $1.2 million in conservation grants to support habitat restoration and water quality improvements across the Chicago and Calumet rivers region. The collaborative funding initiative, backed by federal agencies, corporations, and private philanthropy including the Joyce and Walder foundations, includes an additional $1 million in matching contributions boosting support to $2.2 million. The grants will fund wetland and floodplain restoration, stormwater infrastructure, and community access projects designed to improve ecosystem resilience and outdoor recreation. The initiative aims to restore 209 acres of habitat, expand stormwater storage capacity, and contribute more than 1,000 volunteer conservation hours.
