Blue Planet lands $2.1M California award to scale concrete carbon capture technology

Blue Planet Systems has announced a $2.1 million grant from the California Energy Commission to back its concrete carbon capture field demonstration project. The funding will help the company scale its geomimetic carbon mineralization technology, which converts captured CO2 into limestone aggregates for concrete production. The approach is reported to be 20% more cost-effective and 50% more energy-efficient than traditional carbon capture methods. The project aims to permanently sequester thousands of tons of CO2 annually, produce carbon-negative construction materials, and create green jobs while advancing California’s broader carbon neutral and industrial decarbonization goals.
