The City of Pittsburgh has announced $1.9 million in awards from the Richard King Mellon Foundation, the city’s largest private philanthropy. The grants will expand the Summer Learn & Earn youth employment program into a year-round initiative, redevelop Mellon Square storefronts into potential dining and public space, fund Pittsburgh’s America 250 Independence Day celebration, and support economic development recruitment efforts aimed at attracting new businesses and jobs. The funding leverages a public–private collaboration to strengthen workforce pathways, downtown revitalization, civic engagement, and long-term economic growth across Pittsburgh communities and residents citywide.
