German-Polish math duo wins biennial Copernicus Award for decades of joint research and collaboration

The German Research Foundation and the Foundation for Polish Science have announced Germany’s Dorothee Haroske of the University of Jena in and Poland’s Leszek Skrzypczak of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań as the recipients of the 2026 €200,000 ($216,000) Copernicus Award. The prize recognizes the pair’s two decades of joint mathematics research. The biennial award honors breakthroughs in functional analysis and partial differential equations, including advances in function space theory and Fourier transform applications. Funded equally by both organizations, the prize supports continued research and early-career collaboration. The award will be presented this June in Warsaw, Poland.
