City of Hope oncologist endows new professorship with $1.5M to advance breast cancer research 

City of Hope, a nonprofit cancer research and treatment center near Los Angeles, has announced a $1.5 million gift from Joanne Mortimer–a medical oncologist and COH faculty member since 2007, who serves as the Baum Family Professor in Women’s Cancers–to establish an endowed professorship, supporting breast cancer research and physician-scientists. The endowment will help advance research into early treatment resistance and disease recurrence in hormone receptor-positive breast cancer, providing preliminary funding for gene sequencing and larger studies. The gift aims to strengthen the next generation of breast cancer research and leadership.
