Canada’s McCall MacBain Foundation to sunset by 2027 after final round of major grants

The McCall MacBain Foundation says it will end its grantmaking by the close of 2027, marking the planned sunset of the philanthropy founded by John and Marcy McCall MacBain in 2007. Before winding down, the foundation plans to make several major final payouts to existing partners as it transitions to supporting the founders’ personal philanthropy. The foundation previously made Canada’s largest philanthropic gift at the time, a C$200 million ($146 million) endowment to McGill University in 2019 for graduate scholarships. Existing scholarship funds, including the McGill program, are expected to continue operating beyond the foundation’s closure.
